Portland I-5 Highway Closure: Allow Extra Travel Time

Beginning September 11 through October, portions of I-5 in Portland will be closed for repairs. The closures will cause delays and heavy traffic around the city. Travel times could take 2 to 3 times longer than normal.

If you have ICE check-ins, court dates, ECO appointments, or other important business in Portland during this time:

  • Leave much earlier than you normally would
  • Consider taking MAX Light Rail, which may be faster than driving

If the closure prevents you from arriving on time, make sure to still attend. Be sure to document your efforts to arrive timely (for example, by saving a copy of your bus ticket or screenshotting a picture of maps application on your phone) and any other reasons for the delay and contact an immigration attorney promptly to explore your options.
