Immigrant Justice Fellowship: Empowering New Attorneys to Serve Oregon’s Immigrant Communities

The Immigrant Justice Fellowship offers a unique opportunity for new and emerging attorneys to directly serve Oregon’s immigrant communities. This highly competitive program provides up to four fellows with the chance to begin their legal careers in public interest law, advocating for immigrant rights and providing critical legal services. The fellowship is designed to foster the next generation of immigrant rights attorneys, with a strong preference for Oregon law school graduates and those committed to enhancing diversity in the Oregon bar. Fellows will receive intensive training in immigration law and gain hands-on experience in removal defense, immigrant rights advocacy, and affirmative benefit applications. In partnership with community-based organizations or Innovation Law Lab, the fellows will help individuals at risk of deportation navigate the legal system, all while benefiting from mentorship, technical assistance, and leadership development opportunities.

• Term: 1-year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year
• Start Date: Fall 2025 (earlier start available for barred candidates)
• Salary: Minimum $71,500 annually with full benefits

Eligibility:
Open to lawyers with less than 6 years of experience; applicants must either be members of the Oregon bar, another state bar, or willing to take the Oregon State Bar or enroll in the Supervised Practice Portfolio Exam. Fellows will work closely with Oregon Worker Relief Network (OWR) partners or Innovation Law Lab, providing legal representation in immigration interviews, bond hearings, and removal hearings, among other responsibilities. The program places a strong emphasis on community engagement and allows fellows to develop skills that will empower them to lead the fight for immigrant justice.
